May 31st is meant to be the day when not a single cigarette should be lit! It is quite a joke when we see practically all the smokers around us still smoking cigarettes, and struggling to break the habit for even one day. The power and craving for cigarettes seems to be too strong, and the extra awareness of being no smoking day can't possibly help smokers to avoid cigarettes for that specific day.
Don’t be surprised to see a whole bunch of new protests and campaigns coming out against the smoking of cigarettes this time round. You can't really blame non-smokers while they stand back and watch the environment around them being harmed, and their loved ones being harmed by cigarettes. It comes down to individual choice at the end of the day, and is the same with many other products not only cigarettes. We have to make choices all the time in life, and if people choose to smoke cigarettes what can be done about it?
Realistically no smoking day is a positive motive for smokers to try an actually put down a pack of cigarettes for a day, and re-evaluate why they are smoking, but it doesn’t have any affect on smokers. Smokers are still going through their same routines, and require the stimulations in which cigarettes give to cope with these stresses during their day. It's what a smokers body and brain calls out for, so the thought of attempting to completely blank out cigarettes for a whole day is practically impossible for many smokers.
I know people personally that are afraid of flying because of the wait in which they have to smoke their next cigarette! Cigarettes for these heavy smokers are a routine requirement, either being when a smoker first wakes up, after a cup of coffee, or even after dinner. Taking cigarettes away from a smoker is a daring move to make, for me the general idea of world no smoking day is quite a joke and is not taken seriously. People can rally against cigarettes for as long as they want, but if cigarettes continue to be produced then I can't see smokers putting them down.
